ESPN Kind of Maybe Rips Me Off; More Stuff
So I’m cozying in for my last few hours of work tonight when I get a message on the GChat. “I think ESPN is about to rip you off with a trip down baseball facial hair memory lane.” What what what? Yes, I was the guy behind this piece, that got plenty of play across the interwebs — from The Big Lead to SI’s Hot Clicks and more.
And yes ESPN did spend the last five minutes of SportsCenter Monday talking about famous baseball mustaches, though it’s not entirely clear that they ripped me off. They built their segment off of this story, and they threw in a few guys that I didn’t have in the gallery like Jack Morris and Rod Beck, but they also had Luis Tiant (in), Al Hrabosky (in) and Rollie Fingers (in) among others.
Sure, they could have come up with this brilliant segment all on their own like Liebniz and Newton developing calculus at the same time. There are some pretty bright people over at ESPN. Of course, the four-letter network is also known for stealing people’s stuff without giving them credit. I’m not saying they ripped me off, I’m just saying it’s a possibility.
Other random tidbits:
- I’ll be blogging in the FanHouse, providing Notes From the Clubhouse, basically it will feature stuff that doesn’t make any of my columns. So check me there at this link. And yes I’m getting to plenty of MLB games in the pressbox this year.
- Two pieces of interest: Jeff Francoeur feature and Joba Chamberlain feature.
