Up Next: The Rocket Catches the Real Killers
I can only assume that’s the next logical step for Roger Clemens after the Rusty Hardin Addendum to the Mitchell Report is released.
The problem for Clemens here is not that he’s so vehemently denying the allegations in the Report, but that Andy Pettitte’s admission that he HAS done human growth hormone lends a ton of credence to Brian McNamee’s word. I understand that Roger Clemens has a ton to lose by admitting he used steroids — way more than Andy Pettitte — namely his legacy as the greatest pitcher of the modern era and likely his place in the Hall of Fame, but he’s not doing a lot for himself by swimming upstream against the circumstantial evidence, the strength of McNamee’s word and the current of public opinion.
Frankly, Clemens’ inclusion in the Mitchell Report wasn’t surprising to me in the least. While it wouldn’t be a surprise for any player to be linked to PEDs in some fashion, there are varying degrees to that. Clemens was linked in the Grimsley affidavit last year and there have been whispers about him among writers for years, trust me. A simple glance at his career arc should have told everyone what they needed to know.
Who in their right mind would hire a lawyer named Rusty Hardin? Rusty? Really?? I know he’s probably from Texas, but come on, not the best way to get credibility Roger.
