Mark Cuban Isn’t Giving Up

Mark CubanBut he probably should. It seems like every month I come across a story about Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wanting to buy the Cubs, who are actually for sale at the moment.

“Going to a game at Wrigley Field is something unique and special,” Cuban said.

The Mavericks owner said he hadn’t filed any paperwork regarding the sale and was waiting for economic reports to be released in January. Cuban dismissed a question regarding reports other major-league baseball owners wouldn’t want the controversial owner in their sport.

Mark can dismiss all he want, and I really hate to throw water on this story yet again, but there is no way in hell Major League Baseball is going to allow him into the club. Why? Because unlike every other sport and business entity in this country, MLB is exempt from antitrust laws, as they have been since 1922. That means you need approval to move a team and the owners can keep anyone they want out even if he bids far and away the most money when trying to buy a franchise. And really, that sucks because having Mark Cuban in the same league as Mr. Hankie the Yankee Douche would be amazing. I mean can you imagine him running onto the field after a particularly tough playoff loss because he didn’t like Ed Montague’s strike zone?

Mark Cuban should totally challenge that antitrust exemption shit. He certainly has the money for court and lawyer fees. The owners are total pussies about this. I thought this was America!
