Defensive Indifference

The more you realize baseball players have been a foul-mouthed lot for a longggggg time. 100% Injury Rate has the link to an 1898 baseball document rife with obscenities that would make even Elijah Dukes blush. Things like:

“I’ll make you suck my ass!”

And:

“You cunt-lapping dog!”

Really this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to people with knowledge of baseball in the 1890s. It was largely a sport filled with drunk Irishmen. (Think I’m joking? Go read Bill James’ Historical Baseball Abstract.) And the fans would routinely riot and threaten the umpires with physical violence (or in the worst cases carry it out). Still, this is pretty funny, not just because the insults are, um, creative, but also because I imagine Conan O’Brien saying every single one of them.
